In the realm of design, the Luar armchair stands out as a testament to the innovative spirit of Lattoog. The armchair's genesis was an imaginative exercise in transforming the graphic patterns of Rio's famous sidewalks into a three-dimensional form. The designers, rooted in their Brazilian heritage, named this creation 'Luar,' meaning 'Moonlight,' adding a touch of romance to the armchair's identity.
Distinct in its construction, the Luar armchair showcases a decade's worth of expertise in pressed wood microlaminates. This technique yields slender, curvilinear forms that are as sturdy as they are visually striking. The armchair presents a duality of materials—wood's natural elegance juxtaposed with plush, inviting upholstery, achieving a balance between aesthetic appeal and comfort.
The creation process involves sustainable practices, utilizing tauari wood, a species recommended by Brazil's environmental authorities. The wood's curvature is complemented by recycled PET upholstery, reflecting Lattoog's commitment to environmental responsibility. Each armchair, with its precise dimensions and lightweight design, is packaged in recycled paper, further emphasizing the brand's eco-conscious approach.
Functionality meets cultural homage in the Luar armchair's design. It is an indoor piece that brings the essence of Rio's urban landscape into the domestic sphere. The armchair's ergonomic design ensures that the iconic patterns of Copacabana and Ipanema are not only visually celebrated but also translated into a comfortable seating experience.
From conception in January 2023 to its unveiling at Sao Paolo Design Week in March 2024, the Luar armchair's journey is a narrative of meticulous research and creative resilience. The design team, led by Lattoog, with contributions from Sofia Backx and the manufacturing expertise of Wilson Schuster, has overcome the challenge of reinterpreting Rio's geometric patterns into a functional, ergonomic design.
Latteoog's Luar armchair is not only a piece of furniture but a design innovation that has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2024. This accolade is a testament to the armchair's exceptional design and the team's ability to evoke the spirit of Rio de Janeiro's beaches through a harmonious blend of form and function.
